Rodent help in Trimmier Road (254) 276-0111Trimmier Road is one of Killeen's main north-south routes, and it runs far enough south that morning traffic for Chaparral High School has been reported backing up past Featherline Road almost to Trimmier. Along its length you pass shopping, schools, churches and subdivisions built across several decades, with the newest ones near the south end.
A mix of house ages means a mix of problems
Homes along the older stretches tend to have mature trees, fences that have been rebuilt a few times and garages that have settled. Roof rats use the trees and fence tops; mice use the garage. Toward the south end, newer homes back up to land that was recently cleared, and field mice move in during the first years.
Commercial stretches along Trimmier have the usual restaurant and dumpster pressure, and the residential streets behind them see rats moving in along fences.
What to check outside
On older stretches, look up: limbs that hang over the roof, vines on fences and gaps where the roof changes direction. On newer stretches, look down: the bottom of the garage door, the weep holes along the brick, and the spot where the AC line set goes into the wall. A flashlight walk around the house after dark, looking for light leaking out of the garage, finds a lot of the gaps a technician will point out.
Before you call
Note whether you are hearing things overhead or finding droppings low in the garage or kitchen. Overhead running suggests roof rats; droppings in drawers and behind the stove point to mice. Our rodent noises at night article can help. Ask the technician to check the roofline, the garage door seal and the fence line, then put the plan in writing.
Road and utility work along Trimmier in recent years has also disturbed ground along the right-of-way. Construction can push rodents out of burrows for a while.
