Rodent Control along Rosewood Drive

A mixed-use corridor south of I-14 with new retail, rentals and a hotel going up beside established neighborhoods.

Rodent help in Rosewood Drive corridor (254) 276-0111

Rosewood Drive has turned into one of Killeen's growth corridors. Local business reporting in 2025 described new projects between Interstate 14 and the neighborhoods to the south: a hotel at 2820 Rosewood, a retail plaza next door, a lease-space building at 2501 Rosewood, an auto service center, an animal hospital and new rental housing. Heritage Oaks, near Rosewood and Chaparral Road, is still adding phases.

Construction and rodents

Building sites disturb the ground rodents live in, and new restaurants and retail produce food waste the day they open. Homes that back up to the corridor can see a run of rats and mice during the construction years. Commercial tenants moving into new buildings should not assume a new building is sealed; utility penetrations and door gaps are often left open during finish-out.

A long build-out

Several projects on the corridor run for years. The hotel at 2820 Rosewood was scheduled to finish in November 2027, and new rental housing at 3494 Rosewood was listed as just starting in the city's second-quarter report. That means ground disturbance along the corridor for a while yet. Homes and businesses nearby should plan on sealing once and checking again after each nearby project breaks ground, rather than treating once and assuming it will hold.

For homes and businesses

Homeowners near the corridor should have the garage door seal, weep holes and AC line entry checked, and keep an eye on the fence line for burrows. Businesses opening along Rosewood can set up exterior stations and a service log before the first health inspection; see commercial rodent control and restaurant rodent control.

Tenants in new rental housing should report activity to management in writing. A new unit is not immune, especially in the first months while the area around it is still being built.

Rosewood Drive corridor rodent questions

Do new commercial buildings get rodents?
Yes. Gaps around utilities and doors are often left during finish-out, and food businesses draw rodents right away. Set up service before opening.
Will construction near my house bring rats?
It can for a while. Grading and digging displace rodents from the ground. Sealing your home is the best protection.
Who inspects new restaurants on Rosewood?
Restaurants in Killeen are permitted and inspected by the Bell County Public Health District. See our restaurant rules guide.
