Rats and Mice in Fort Hood Housing

How on-post pest requests work through Cavalry Family Housing, and help for families renting off post.

Rodent help in Fort Hood housing (254) 276-0111

Fort Hood borders Killeen to the north. The post was called Fort Cavazos from 2023 until June 10, 2025, when the Army redesignated it Fort Hood in honor of Col. Robert B. Hood, a World War I soldier. On-post family housing is privatized and runs under the Cavalry Family Housing name, which the installation lists at more than 5,600 homes. In January 2025, Lendlease sold its U.S. military housing business, and a new company, Centinel Public Partnerships, took over operations.

This page is honest about what a phone line can and cannot do for on-post families.

If you live on post

Pests in on-post family housing go through housing maintenance, not an outside company. Cavalry Family Housing's integrated pest management FAQ says residents cannot contract with outside vendors directly for pest management. It asks residents to report rodent activity, have maintenance fix the entry points pests are using, and remove food and water sources. Free traps and bait stations are available from the community self-help location. If the problem continues, submit a service request through the Maintenance Solution Center or the resident app for a professional assessment.

Keep your own record: dates, photos of droppings and the work order numbers. If a request stalls, the installation's housing services office and your chain of command are the next people to tell. Calling this site's number will not send anyone into on-post housing.

If you rent or own off post

Many Fort Hood families live off post in Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Nolanville and the towns around them. Those homes are covered by Texas landlord-tenant law, and you can call to reach a local rodent technician. Texas also gives servicemembers the right to end a lease early on permanent change of station orders or deployment orders of 90 days or more, with written notice and a copy of the orders. Our tenant and landlord guide covers that and the repair notice rules, and the PCS move-in checklist covers what to check on day one.
